Franco plays reporter role for VMAs
James Franco is set to bring his clueless reporter character from an upcoming film to the small screen for a pre-MTV Video Music Awards show.
The 127 Hours actor is due to star in comedy The Interview as TV reporter Dave Skylark, but is giving the character an early airing in a spoof interview show ahead of the VMAs, according to The Wrap.
Dave Skylark's Very Special VMA Special will feature James as charismatic but clueless Dave, interviewing Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea and Jason Derulo, the week before the awards ceremony is due to take place.
In The Interview, James will star alongside Seth Rogen who plays his news programme's producer, as the pair are sent out to North Korea under the guise of covering a story but actually being sent on a secret mission to kill Kim Jong Un.
The film has sparked outrage in North Korea and Sony have been forced to make some edits to scenes before it is released on January 30.
Dave Skylark's Very Special VMA Special will air in the US on August 17, and the MTV VMAs will air a week later on August 24.
