Gabourey Sidibe finds fame strange

Gabourey Sidibe has said she is still pinching herself over her unexpected fame.

The actress was nominated for an Oscar for her lead role in Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire, and is now starring in a TV show.

At a meeting of the Television Critics Association in Beverly Hills, Gabourey described herself as a "middle-of-the-lane, very normal" person who planned to be a receptionist.

The 27-year-old said it had been a "strange year" which included her Academy Award nod and her co-starring role in The Big C.

The comedy-drama stars Laura Linney as a schoolteacher confronting a terminal-cancer diagnosis. Gabourey plays a smart-alec student.
