Game of Thrones braced to do battle for Golden Globes

Game of Thrones - the hit fantasy drama filmed in Northern Ireland - faces some tough competition at the Golden Globes.

Lena Headey - who stars as the scheming Queen Cersei - is up against The Night Manager's Olivia Colman in the best supporting TV actress category.

Thandie Newton is nominated in the same section for her role as a Westworld android.

Game Of Thrones will battle it out for best TV drama series against Netflix's royal biopic The Crown, 1980s nostalgia series Stranger Things, US drama This Is Us, and sci-fi hit Westworld.

The Night Manager scored four nominations, including best limited series. As well as Colman, Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie received nods in the acting categories. Hiddleston will compete for best TV actor along with fellow Briton Riz Ahmed, who is nominated for his role in The Night Of. John Lithgow was nominated in the best supporting actor category for his portrayal of Sir Winston Churchill in The Crown.
