Gillan lands role in Baddiel's film
Karen Gillan has landed a lead role as a time-travelling Juliet in David Baddiel's directorial debut, Romeo And Brittney.
The Scottish beauty, best known for playing Doctor Who's feisty companion Amy Pond, will play a high school teenager from New Jersey who finds herself travelling back in time to "mythical 13th-century Verona" in William Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet, reported Deadline.
Gillian Anderson will play the dual roles of Karen's mother and the Nurse, while The Misfits' Robert Sheehan will be the school nerd who becomes Karen's Romeo in the comedy, described as "Shakespeare In Love meets Clueless" by producer Arvind Ethan David.
"We both love literate teen comedies and we wanted to do our own version," Arvind told the website.
"After all, 10 Things I Hate About You was based on The Taming Of The Shrew just as Clueless was based on Jane Austen's Emma and Easy A is inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter. And what is Twilight if it's not Romeo and Juliet with vampires and werewolves?"
Romeo And Brittney will start shooting in May.
