Gleeson: Star Wars films exciting
Domhnall Gleeson has revealed he only watched the original Star Wars trilogy after signing on to star in the seventh film.
The Frank star has been tight-lipped about his upcoming appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, alongside the franchise's original cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.
But he told the Daily Mail that he only saw the famous, original Star Wars films from start to finish after being cast in the hotly-anticipated new movie.
"'I did like Star Wars when I was a kid. I saw the prequels first, I didn't see the full original films first all the way through," he said.
"So I went back and watched them all on a big screen after I got cast, and that made me incredibly excited about it. I loved every second."
Domhnall, who next stars in Alex Garland's sci-fi thriller Ex Machina, said he had to quell his fanboy side when he went on the Star Wars set.
"I am (a fan) but the only way for me to do my job is to treat it like a job and just try and kill it," he told Metro. "I mean, it's amazing how much they built the sets, it gives you a sense of the grandeur of those movies.
"When you see the actual sets built for Star Wars, that's pretty cool," he added.
John Boyega, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis and Daisy Ridley will also star in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is directed by JJ Abrams. The film opens in cinemas in December.
