Grumpy Cat gets Christmas TV movie
Grumpy Cat is to feature in her own festive film.
The internet phenomenon will be the star of Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Eve, a cross between "a little Home Alone and a little Die Hard", for US network Lifetime, said the Hollywood Reporter.
The live-action movie, which will be written by Tim Hill and Jeff Morris, will focus on a lonely pet-store cat and a 12-year-old girl who can communicate with her. It would also feature cameos from other famous internet memes.
The channel's spokesman Arturo Interian revealed his teenage daughters, who are fans of the Phoenix-based feline, gave him the idea for the film.
"It brings fun and irreverence that we haven't had at Lifetime. We're so known for our heartfelt sentimentality that it will poke fun at those stereotypes," he said.
Lifetime are now looking for the voice of Grumpy for the film, which is expected to start shooting in coming months.
Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, became an internet meme in 2012 when her owner Tabatha Bundesen's brother posted a photo on Reddit. She has since spawned a book, a coffee product and a short-lived movie deal for Here Comes The Boom.
Her manager Ben Lashes, who also works with Keyboard Cat, Success Kid and other internet memes, is excited for the film.
"When I go home for Christmas, there are movies that we always watch. It becomes a tradition. I like that aspect of Christmas movies," he said.
He added: "I'm sure she'll have the poshest trailer a cat has ever had on set."
