Hawke to star in Cymbeline film

Ethan Hawke is set to star in a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare's play Cymbeline.

The Before Midnight star will reunite with director Michael Almereyda, 13 years after they worked together on the Shakespeare film remake of Hamlet, reported Variety.

Ethan's role has not yet been revealed.

Set in corruption-riddled 21st century America, the film will show the battle between dirty cops and a drug-dealing biker gang. The original play focused on Imogen, the daughter of British king Cymbeline, who was banished after he found out she secretly married one of his courtiers without his permission.

Filming is scheduled to start in New York in August.

Ethan, who reprised his role as Jesse Wallace in Before Midnight, will next be seen in action thriller Getaway with Selena Gomez.

The 42-year-old actor, who has starred in films including Dead Poet's Society, Gattaca and Reality Bites, will make his return to the New York stage in November for the Lincoln Centre Theatre's production of Macbeth.
