Chris Hemsworth has been linked to period whaling story In The Heart Of The Sea.
The Thor star is said to be "attached" to the long-development film adaptation of Nathaniel Philbrick's novel, which DreamWorks is considering taking on, reported Deadline.
Based on a true story which inspired Herman Melville's Moby Dick, the film - which is set in the 1800s - is about a whaling ship destroyed by a sperm whale, leaving only eight survivors.
Chris would play the first mate of the 20-strong crew, who finds himself thrown into action when the boat comes under attack in the Pacific, and they are lost at sea for 90 days.
No director is attached yet, while Charles Leavitt has written the script.
Chris - who recently welcomed his first child with wife Elsa Pataky - has been busy reprising his superhero role for Avengers Assemble and sharing screen time with Kristen Stewart in Snow White And The Huntsman.
He has been filming his role as Formula 1 driver James Hunt for Ron Howard's racing drama Rush, and will next be seen in action war film Red Dawn alongside Josh Hutcherson and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
