Hirsch to play Belushi in biopic
Emile Hirsch is set to play comedian John Belushi on the big screen in an upcoming biopic.
The Into The Wild star has been cast as the late funnyman in Steve Conrad's untitled film, said The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie, which is based on Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby's book Belushi, will explore John's rise to fame in the late 70s as an original cast member of Saturday Night Live and the star of films like The Blues Brothers and Animal House, before his fatal drug overdose at Los Angeles' Chateau Marmont at the age of 33.
Steve has written the screenplay and will direct the indie drama.
Dan Aykroyd, one of the actor's best friends and frequent collaborator, will be an executive producer, while John's widow Judy Belushi Pisano will be on board as a producer.
Shooting is expected to begin in New York in spring 2014.
Emile, who stars in David Gordon Green's indie drama Prince Avalanche, will next play Clyde Barrow in TV series Bonnie & Clyde.
The 28-year-old, who has received acclaim for his performances in Into The Wild and Milk, will also star alongside Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch and Ben Foster in Peter Berg's Lone Survivor.
