Hoffman a shoe-in for The Cobbler

Dustin Hoffman is set to join Adam Sandler in comedy The Cobbler.

The two-time Oscar-winning actor will round out the cast of the character-driven movie alongside Steve Buscemi, Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens and Method Man, reported The Wrap.

Adam is already on board to play a shoe repairman who gets involved into the lives of people whose footwear he fixes. Steve is tipped to play a character named Manny, while Dustin's part and the other roles are being kept under wraps.

Tom McCarthy will direct the independent film, which is being shot in New York.

Dustin, who won the Academy Awards for his performances in Kramer Vs Kramer and Rain Man, will next star with Dame Judi Dench in a BBC One production of Roald Dahl's Esio Trot in 2014.

The 76-year-old made his directorial debut with Quartet, starring Dame Maggie Smith and Billy Connolly, and his next film is Jon Favreau's Chef opposite Robert Downey Jr.

Steve, who headlines HBO's crime drama Boardwalk Empire, has appeared frequently in Adam's movies such as Mr Deeds, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and Grown Ups 2.
