I’m no clone of Christine Bleakley, insists new One Show presenter Alex Jones
New One Show presenter Alex Jones has insisted she is “quite different” to predecessor Christine Bleakley, despite the uncanny resemblance. 1
The Welsh woman added that BBC One audiences will quickly realise there are few similarities with Ulster girl Christine.
She also said she has a very different taste in men to the 31-year-old girlfriend of football star Frank Lampard, claiming she is more of a “rugby player girl”.
She said: “Some people have mentioned ‘you look a little bit like the woman off the One Show', but looking like Christine is not a bad thing.
“She is a gorgeous girl and she did a great job while she was on the One Show, so hopefully when I get on screen people will realise we are quite different'.”
Welsh girl Alex (32) said she would not be bagging herself a football player boyfriend like her predecessor.
She added: “I'm more of a rugby player girl than a football player girl. I prefer rugby.”
Alex, who starts on August 16, has beaten some of the biggest names in television to be awarded the £100,000-a-year job, and told how TV bosses head-hunted her for the role after a internet showreel of her previous work.
Alex admitted she is excited at the prospect of working next to her new co-host, funnyman Jason Manford.
She told BBC Radio Five Live's Breakfast show: “From the brief, short chats we've had we are from pretty similar backgrounds so hopefully it will work well.
“I have presenting experience and he has the humour. Both things complement each other.”
