Jamie Dornan laid bare in interview with Eamonn Mallie

By Jackie Bell

Journalist and broadcaster Eamonn Mallie has said his interview with Northern Ireland actor Jamie Dornan is the most in-depth the star has ever given.

Eamonn Mallie: Face to Face with... Jamie Dornan is set to air on UTV next week.

The Holywood man flew in to Belfast especially to record the one-on-one chat at the Lyric Theatre's Naughton Studio.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Mallie said a wide-range of topics will be discussed during the programme, which is the sixth episode of the series.

"This will be the most in-depth, comprehensive interview he has ever given," he said. "We cover everything from him growing up in Northern Ireland to moving and living in England, his private and public life, and the death of his mother - it's a very expansive chat."

Dornan, 35, earned international fame following roles in the BBC/RTE thriller The Fall and, perhaps his best known work , the film adaptations of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy.

He has also previously starred alongside Irish actor Cillian Murphy in the 2016 film Anthropoid.

"He is a very entertaining young man," continued Mr Mallie.

"And he is also very self-deprecating, so it was great to get to chat to him about his work to date, from his role as Paul Spector in The Fall to taking on the huge incarnation of Mr Christian Grey.

"During the programme we really get an insight into his dreams and aspirations for the future."

Eamonn Mallie: Face to Face with... sees the journalist talk with some of the biggest names in the world of sport, acting and public life.

So far the series from EMM Productions has included boxer Carl Frampton, singer Andrea Corr, Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody, playwright Marie Jone, and GAA pundit Joe Brolly.

Due to huge interest in Dornan's chat with Mallie, the programme - which usually runs for 30 minutes - has been extended to a one hour special.

"Ever since we announced Jamie would be speaking to me as part of the series, the level of interest from all over the world has been phenomenal," said Mallie.

"I've had correspondence with people in France, Greece, Spain, the USA, you name it.

"His reach as a star throughout the world is extraordinary."

Dornan will soon be back as billionaire Christian Grey in the new film Fifty Shades Darker, released on February, 9.

Later this year he is set to appear as Will Scarlett alongside Jamie Foxx and Taron Egerton in a new adaptation of Robin Hood.

Meanwhile, 2018 will also see the Co Down man share the screen with Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage in My Dinner with Hervé.

Eamonn Mallie: Face to Face with... Jamie Dornan airs on Wednesday, February 7 at 10.45pm on UTV.
