Janet Devlin awaits her fate as the X Factor judges start big purge

The X Factor auditions are over for another year and tonight the competition really gets tough as ‘boot camp’ kicks off.

Northern Ireland hopeful Janet Devlin, who wowed the judges during her audition, is seen on tonight’s show nervously waiting to hear if she has made the cut.

The judges decide to go back over all the auditions of the 186 acts they put through to decide that some should go no further without being given the chance to sing again.

Janet (16), from Omagh, is seen hoping that she will be given another chance to sing in front of judges Kelly Rowland, Tulisa Contostavlos, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh. Last month she stunned them with her haunting vocals on her take of the Elton John 1970s hit, Your Song.

Tonight the judges drop almost 40 acts and one in particular — 24-year-old Curtis Ray White — takes it badly and demands answers.

He says: “I want to speak to them, fair enough if they can give me as to why I didn't get through, they've reviewed the tapes and I want to know why, I want an explanation, mate.”

Barlow explains the decision, telling him: “You know what, mate? The truth of this is your opportunity was your audition, we sat last night and we saw everyone's audition.

“To be fair to you, we are saying to you, go and make yourself better because there are people a lot better than you in your category, you're not even going to get a chance, why do we need to lead you on for this week?”

X Factor is on ITV1 tonight at 8pm
