Looper is Gordon-Levitt's best role

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has revealed playing Bruce Willis in Looper is his favourite role to date.

The Inception star had to study the Die Hard actor for Rian Johnson's futuristic sci-fi thriller, in which he portrays a younger version of Bruce.

"For me, it was definitely one of the more interesting challenges I've ever tackled, as an actor. I think I could probably say that it's my favourite performance of my own," he told movie news website

Joseph admitted doing hours of physical preparation and swotting-up on Bruce's big-screen career for the part.

"It took almost three hours to apply the make-up. It's a different face, and that was partly the foundation of the character," he revealed.

"To look in the mirror every day and see someone else's face was a trip. It was sort of a dream. As an actor, what I get off on most is becoming someone else."

The 31-year-old continued: "I based my character on him. I watched his movies, and I would take the audio out of his movies and put it on my iPod, so I could listen to him.

"But, most of all, I just got to hang out with him, have dinner, have conversations and get to know him. It was a fascinating challenge because I didn't want to do an impression of him. But, creating a character that was more him than me was fascinating."
