Madonna tests Wallis' languages

Madonna tested Annabelle Wallis on her language skills during her audition for WE.

The Tudors star has been cast in the singer's new film, about Wallis Simpson's love affair with King Edward VIII, and revealed to the Daily Telegraph she regretted boasting on her CV she speaks four European languages.

Annabelle, 25, said: "Madonna asked me to read the foreign parts in rehearsals, before those parts had been cast.

"I was stumbling over every word and it soon became clear that I may have been exaggerating slightly when I wrote that I was fluent on my CV."

She laughed: "When you are being directed by your idol, it is not the best time to be caught out but she was actually really great about it."

WE charts the life of Edward VIII's wife Wallis Simpson, who will be played by Andrea Riseborough, and will mark Madonna's feature-length directorial debut. James D'Arcy will play Edward.
