Magic Mike sequel starts shooting
Channing Tatum has started shooting his eagerly anticipated Magic Mike sequel.
Steven Soderbergh, who directed the 2012 stripper film, tweeted a picture of a film slate showing that Magic Mike XXL was under way in Myrtle Beach.
"It's ON!" wrote the filmmaker, who will still be a part of making the film although he has passed directorial duties to Gregory Jacobs.
The name on the slate says Peter Andrews, the moniker Steven works under as cinematographer.
Channing, whose own stripping experience inspired the first film, reprises his role as male stripper Michael 'Magic Mike' Lane and is co-writing the screenplay with Reid Carolin.
The actor has said that the follow-up has been inspired by two strippers' conventions he attended, travelling in a friend's van and performing in front of 3,000 women.
Joe Manganiello is returning for the follow up but it isn't clear whether Dallas Buyers Club star Matthew McConaughey will be back as club owner Dallas.
Magic Mike XXL will be released in July 2015.
