Mara and Fincher for new thriller
Rooney Mara and David Fincher are in talks to work together again on spy thriller Red Sparrow.
The director helped propel Rooney, 29, into the spotlight by casting her in the lead role of his 2011 adaptation of Swedish thriller The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. She also appeared in Fincher's Oscar-winning film The Social Network.
Now Deadline has reported they are both circling the adaptation of Jason Matthews spy novel Red Sparrow.
Rooney would play present-day Russian spy Dominika, who is ordered against her will to become a 'Sparrow' trained in the art of using sex and seduction to extract information.
But when she is assigned to work against a young CIA officer, they begin a relationship and Dominika becomes a double agent, putting themselves and a whole network of spies in danger.
Fox is in talks with American Hustle writer Eric Warren Singer to adapt the book for the big screen.
Director Darren Aronofsky was previously linked to the project.
