Rising Northern Irish actor Marty McCann is to feature in three new movies to be marketed at the star-studded Cannes Film Festival this weekend.

The 27-year-old actor stars in a hat-trick of local feature films, Killing Bono, Whole Lotta Sole and Jump, which all feature at the world's top movie festival.

Northern Ireland Screen will also market two other films, Grabbers and Good Vibrations, to the global screen industry over the next few days, while locally made short Yuki has been selected for the Short Film Corner.

Marty is shooting Terry George's latest project, Whole Lotta Sole, in Belfast, alongside The Mummy star Brendan Fraser, Yaya da Costa and Colm Meaney.

NI Screen will present the first footage from Whole Lotta Sole — a two-minute promo teaser — as a world exclusive at its networking Chairman's Lunch tomorrow.

The film is produced through Belfast-based Generator Entertainment and is being sold worldwide at Cannes by LA-based Essential Entertainment.

McCann also stars in Hotshot Films’ Jump. The modern fairytale, filmed in Derry and Belfast, stars Nichola Burley, Ciaran McMenamin and Richard Dormer.

Set on New Year’s Eve, it follows the trials and tribulations of three unrelated groups of characters, gradually revealing how their stories interweave.

McCann also popped up in the recent release Killing Bono.

Also being marketed is Grabbers, a comedy horror starring Richard Coyle, Ruth Bradley, |Russell Tovey and Bronagh Gallagher. An idyllic remote Irish fishing village is invaded by giant tentacled creatures from the sea.

Learning that the one thing the creatures don’t like is alcohol (it makes humans taste horrible), the locals realise that in order to stay alive, they’re going to have to get as drunk as possible.

The producers of Good Vibrations, Belfast’s Chris Martin and Andrew Eaton from Revolution Films, will also be in Cannes. Now in pre-production, it is expected to start filming near the end of the summer.

Yuki, a Northern Ireland/Japanese short film written and directed by Jonathan Beer, has been selected for the Cannes Short Film Corner. Organized by the Festival de Cannes, the Short Film Corner is considered as an important step for developing a career in the film industry.

Young Marty McCann, who appeared in Steven Spielberg's Pacific, and Killing Bono, grew up in the Divis area of the Falls Road in Belfast. His first feature film was the romantic drama Closing The Ring (2007) directed by Richard Attenborough.

In February he won the Irish Film and Television Academy Award for lead actor in a feature film for his performance as Occi Byrne in Swansong.
