McQuarrie for Mission Impossible 5
Christopher McQuarrie is set to direct Mission: Impossible 5, which would reunite him with Tom Cruise.
Tom, who will also produce the film, revealed he was "thrilled" to collaborate again with his Jack Reacher director and writer.
He said: "I am thrilled to reunite with Chris for the latest instalment in the Mission series. I began producing the films with the goal that a different director with his own vision would make each one. Chris is an extraordinary filmmaker who will deliver the heart-pounding action and thrills that audiences around the world have come to expect from the Mission: Impossible franchise."
Chris hinted that he may have signed on to take the reins on the fifth instalment of the spy action movie, when he tweeted: "Mission: Accepted."
But it was Tom, who confirmed the news when he wrote on Twitter: "MISSION ACCEPTED! It's OFFICIAL! @ChrisMcquarrie is the director of #MissionImpossible 5!"
Tom is already on board to reprise his role as undercover agent Ethan Hunt, and is rumoured to be joined by returning cast members Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Ving Rhames.
Production on Mission: Impossible 5, to be written by Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce, is expected to begin soon, with a release scheduled for 2015.
