Menzel: I relate to Frozen persona
Idina Menzel has revealed that she feels "as one" with her character in Frozen.
The singer-actress lends her voice to Snow Queen Elsa in Disney's new movie, who has to keep her icy powers under wraps after she accidentally freezes her sister Anna (Kristen Bell).
"I felt as one with her because I relate to her struggles," she said.
"I feel we, especially as women, all struggle with balancing that part of ourselves that is so powerful, smart or talented, or whatever it is that you have that makes you really shine, and that part that makes you want to hide and makes you insecure. It's exciting to play that kind of character in a Disney film, because I don't think we've seen anyone like that before.
The 42-year-old added: "When I was a kid, I knew at an early age that I had this voice... so I was very self-conscious about showing it too much, or the other kids might think I am showing off. I wanted to make friends and fit in so I feel so strongly about the film and what it says to young people - to not waste time in trying to fit in and follow others just to be liked."
Idina, who has appeared on Glee, said she can tick another achievement off her list of things to do.
"It's a dream come true to be in a traditional Disney film and have a song that's so well-written and beautiful," she said.
"Just to be a part of the legacy at Disney is such a milestone. Now I have a four-year-old, so to be able to share it with him is terrific."
