Moneyball director said yes to Pitt

Brad Pitt was the reason why Bennett Miller decided to work on Moneyball, the director has revealed.

The Capote director was persuaded to direct the sports drama by the Hollywood A-lister, who was so passionate that he chose to co-produce and star in it.

"The reason that I got involved with the film was because of Brad in the first place," he told Variety.

"Brad was the one that reached out and invited me to look at all of the material. When I flew out to sit and talk with him, a big part of it was wanting to understand what his interest was and what was driving him."

Brad, who has received award nominations for his performance as baseball manager Billy Beane in the movie, alongside a supporting cast including Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Wright, was the perfect choice, according to Bennett.

"I think it's a good sign when you work [with an actor], and you can't imagine somebody else in the role. After that, this whole big star thing, it really never feels like that at all," the director continued.

"He was also a producer on the film and was more supportive than anything else. His participation in the movie, the fact that he's starring in the thing, is it attractive to other actors? I'm sure it is, but I can't imagine that the casting process was radically different than if we were making an independent film."
