Oldman to play George Smiley again?

Gary Oldman has apparently confirmed he will be reprising his role as intelligence officer George Smiley.

The Nil By Mouth director starred as the famous spy in Tomas Alfredson's big screen adaptation of John Le Carre's cult novel Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He told The Daily Mail he will star in the big screen version of one of Le Carre's follow-up novels, Smiley's People.

Gary said: "It's happening some time next year."

The Dark Knight Rises star is hotly tipped for a best actor Oscar for his portrayal of Smiley, who he based on Le Carre after enjoying long stodgy lunches with him to learn his mannerisms.

Gary has said of the awards buzz: "I don't follow it but it's nice if people are saying it, it's better than them not saying it."

Smiley's People is set several years after Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the former spymaster unravels an ingenious secret.

Tomas Alfredson will return as director.
