Paula Patton has described her fight scene with French actress Lea Seydoux in Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol as "empowering".

The Precious star tussles with Lea's character, a Russian contract killer, in a scene that sees her throwing the Gallic actress onto a table - all the while clad in a cocktail dress.

"It was really empowering," explained the actress, who plays agent Jane Carter in the fourth instalment of the Mission: Impossible film series.

"We both wanted to make sure that it wasn't a catfight of pulling hair and scratching because these two are super-spies, so to speak, and they know how to handle themselves with men, so we wanted to make sure the fight had that sort of ferociousness."

The pair had to do some preparation for the scene.

"It took quite a bit of training to get us to the point where we could make it look as real and natural as possible. It was intense to shoot," she added.

Despite the brutal violence the 36-year-old dishes out to her French counterpart on screen, Paula confessed to having the time of her life on the action set.

"We had so much fun, and as much as it looks like we hate each other, we ended up loving each other quite a bit!" she laughed.
