Donegal became 50 Shades more glamorous over the weekend with the arrival of Hollywood actor Jamie Dornan.

Jamie was visiting the picturesque seaside townland of Portsalon for a father and son golfing tournament at Portsalon Golf Club with a number of friends and their dads. Jamie's own dad Jim also took part.

Europe's 2014 Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley was also at the club on the day and the high-profile pair posed for a photo with Club Captain, Martin Blaney. Captain Blaney said that, despite the fact that the 50 Shades of Grey actor's presence left ladies within a 20 mile radius weak at the knees, he had no idea who he was.

“I was talking to him for a good 15 minutes about golf and I didn't even know who he was,” said Martin.

“He just came down for a round of golf, himself and his friends from Belfast and all their fathers. They play a father and son tournament every year. They were here last year also. Jamie had his father with him. I think he enjoyed the challenge of Portsalon.

“They played 18-holes here and were around the clubhouse. It was pouring with rain in the morning when they were supposed to go out at 11am, so we held them back until noon. They got a great day for it then when they went out. I think Jamie is a very capable golfer, he's a member of the Royal Belfast. I think he has a 14 or 15 handicap.

“They came to the clubhouse afterwards and Paul McGinley was here also. I got the two of them together for a picture.

We had a little sprinkling of stardust here in Portsalon this afternoon as none other than Mr Jamie Dornan joined us for...

“He might have been a Hollywood star but he was a very ordinary fella, really down to earth and lovely with all the staff. He posed for pictures and talked to everyone. He was a very nice fella, there were no airs or graces about him.”

After his round of golf Jamie visited the Harbour Bar in nearby Downings, much to the delight of punters there.

Claire Curran says she nipped in for a quick pint on Saturday evening and was shocked to see Jamie and his friends at the bar drinking pints.

“He was really lovely,” she said. “We had a chat. Mostly we discussed my upcoming audition for the new 50 shades of Grey movie! He was very down to Earth. He said he was on a golfing weekend with his friends and just having 'the craic'. He said he just loves Donegal and he absolutely had no bother posing for photographs with staff and customers.”
