Plans for James Bond musical

James Bond's newest adventure could be more disco ball than Thunderball after plans were unveiled for a musical based on the world's most famous secret agent.

Merry Saltzman, the daughter of Bond film producer Harry Saltzman, said she had secured the rights for a stage show which she wanted to put on in New York or Las Vegas.

She told Playbill.com: "Production schedules and trial runs are still being worked out in anticipation of a late 2017-early 2018 opening."

She said the show would feature several classic Bond villains and "our own Bond girl".

The current Bond film - Spectre - stars Daniel Craig as 007 and Christoph Waltz as the baddie Franz Oberhauser.

Bond's past looks set to haunt him in the 24th big screen instalment of the spy series, with 007 receiving a cryptic message leading him on a trail to uncover the truth behind shady crime syndicate Spectre, while M fights for the secret service's political life.

Spectre is scheduled for release on November 6, and comes after the success of Skyfall, which grossed 1.1 billion dollars (£700 million) worldwide .
