Poldark fans were outraged as the series three finale was delayed by coverage of the Athletics World Championships.

Viewers tuning in to watch Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) and co on BBC1 at 9pm instead saw athletics on their screens.

Coverage of the sports event was also airing on BBC2.

One person posted on Twitter: “BBC1. So annoyed. Athletics race on both channels. So delay start to final episode of #Poldark. Why? Very bad planning.”

“@BBCOne is it really necessary to show athletics on both BBC One and Two and bump #Poldark back by 5 minutes without explanation. Crazy!!!” snapped another.
