Portman set to play Jackie Kennedy

Natalie Portman has been tipped to play Jackie Kennedy in a new movie.

The Oscar-winning Black Swan actress hasn't signed on but is apparently being "courted" for the lead role in Jackie, reported Deadline.

The upcoming movie will focus on America's former First Lady in the wake of the assassination of her husband, President John F Kennedy, in 1963.

Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky was previously attached to the project with his then partner Rachel Weisz set to star as Jackie, but they are no longer attached to the film following their split.

So far it isn't known who will take over the director's chair, although Natalie, 31, is said to be waiting until she knows who will be at the helm before she makes a decision.

Natalie would join a long line of stars to have played Jackie Kennedy on both the big and small screens, including Jacqueline Bisset, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Katie Holmes and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
