Redmayne in Everest climb role?

Eddie Redmayne could be set to star as George Mallory in a new film about the English mountaineer, who went missing on his attempt to climb Mount Everest.

The My Week With Marilyn star is being championed by Lord Archer for the lead role in the film adaptation of his book Paths Of Glory.

Mallory went missing on his third Everest expedition in 1924 and his body was not found until 1999, when a special expedition was launched to find his remains.

Lord Archer told the Daily Telegraph: "They're now looking for a person to play Mallory and I'm pushing very hard for Eddie.

"I have talked to Columbia who had been looking at three people, who are all well known, but now it's four as I have got them to add Eddie to the list. He's a phenomenal actor and I want the film to showcase British talent."

Columbia pictures is adapting Paths of Glory for the big screen in a 50 million dollar production, with The Bourne Identity's Doug Liman reportedly signed up to direct.
