Rihanna loved feisty movie role

Rihanna has revealed she enjoyed portraying a strong female in new film Battleship.

The Bajan beauty makes her acting debut playing Petty Officer Cora Raikes in Peter Berg's sci-fi action adventure alongside Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch and Brooklyn Decker.

"It was definitely fun. I was looking forward to it when I heard about the character and the role, and about her demeanour," she said.

"I was intrigued by that - I thought that was a cool part, especially as I got to shoot a lot of weapons, kick a lot of alien butt. I enjoyed the experience, I really did."

The 24-year-old singer had been eager to try acting for a while, but wanted to wait for the right role.

"After I got older, it seemed like something that I would be interested in. I didn't know if I would be any good so I just wanted to try and see even if I would like it," she said.

"I've been offered a lot of film roles before, but they were never the right one. It was either wrong or I wasn't ready to play the role but I wanted to take my time, start with baby steps. Start with small roles that I feel I could pull off in a professional way."

:: Battleship opens in cinemas on April 11.
