Rihanna 'scared' by film debut

Rihanna has revealed she was terrified about acting in her first film role.

The 24-year-old pop sensation, who stars in director Peter Berg's action adventure Battleship, alongside Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch and Brooklyn Decker, admitted that despite her huge success, she still felt nervous when she first went on the movie set.

"I'm way more familiar when going on stage. I still get nervous every time, but the fear of the unknown is indescribable," she said.

"I had no idea what I was getting into and I didn't know what to expect. It was a huge set, with so many people, huge cranes and cameras. It was scary, it was really scary and then there was little me trying to get through everything and hoping that they wouldn't call me today.

"Right away, it was like, 'Boom, you're up - and you have lines'," she added.

The We Found Love singer - who denied she's dating Two And A Half Men's Ashton Kutcher - admitted she has been hungry to act for a while.

"It has been something we've been working on for a long time, but never did the right part come up. I met with Pete and I didn't really know much about the part or the meeting I was going into. I got the script and I loved it," she said.

Rihanna added, in an interview with Daybreak: "I'm very competitive with myself... I want to get better every time - the next step always has to be upwards."

:: Battleship opens in cinemas on April 11.
