Guy Ritchie has not been formally offered a job directing the 300 sequel, Xerxes.
The Sherlock Holmes director was reported to have been given the opportunity to work on the action follow-up, but a Warner Bros spokesperson has denied the claims.
They told Entertainment Weekly that the suggestion Guy had formally been offered the role was "an erroneous rumour".
Like the 2006 film 300, which starred Gerard Butler, Xerxes is based on one of Frank Miller's graphic novels.
Filmmaker Zack Snyder has his hands full with Superman: Man Of Steel, which is expected to start filming this summer and stars Henry Cavill as the caped superhero.
The future of Xerxes is up in the air - it remains in active development but has not yet been given the go-ahead.
