Romantic role for star of Hunger Michael Fassbender
He rose to fame playing IRA prisoner Bobby Sands in the harrowing Channel 4 film Hunger.
But Michael Fassbender is to take on a very different role when he plays one of literature’s most famous romantic figures in a new BBC drama.
The German-born actor who grew up in Ireland will play Edward Rochester in the latest remake of the Charlotte Bronte classic Jane Eyre.
Fassbender, who has starred in the movies Inglourious Basterds and Fish Tank, will star opposite Mia Wasikowska, who plays the lead role of the governess.
The drama will be directed by Cary Fukunaga and production is due to begin this week.
