Ryan Phillippe 'not disillusioned'
Ryan Phillippe has revealed he was initially reluctant to spend time with co-star Matthew McConaughey on his new film.
Matthew plays a slick criminal defence attorney who is hired by a Beverly Hills millionaire (Ryan) accused of attempted murder, in The Lincoln Lawyer.
The pair thought it best for the sake of their characters to stay away from each other at first, with Ryan saying: "We kept a certain distance initially, I think because of the dynamic of our characters and the relationship there.
"But as we worked more and more, it became apparent that we had a lot in common, so the walls broke down."
Ryan, 36, believes his latest character of a rich LA playboy is unlike anything he's played before.
"I was drawn to the idea of playing this guy who's so deeply troubled. I couldn't wait to mine all of his psychological characteristics," he said.
The father-of-two and ex-husband of Reese Witherspoon is now venturing behind the scenes with two films he's due to direct this year. He's also working as a writer on a couple of other projects.
"I've been an actor for almost 20 years and it's not about being disillusioned or not having a passion for it any more," he said. "I just want to create and have more of an instrumental role in the projects I'm part of."
