Ryan's Gangster Squad wardrobe woes

Ryan Gosling has revealed he wasn't a fan of his Gangster Squad costume.

The actor plays a police officer fighting to keep the east coast Mafia out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 1950s in the film, and was required to wear a rather scratchy suit.

"The wool was quite itchy, so I had a rash," he told People. "I channelled that irritation into my hatred for the gangsters."

Co-star Josh Brolin agreed with Ryan, saying his costume for the cop movie was also "itchy and tight".

Ryan met with the real-life relatives of his character in Gangster Squad to find out more about the role.

"His kids came to the set and told me a lot of stories and a lot of great details. Like, when he would ash his cigarette, he would ash into the cuff of his pants," Ryan said.

"Then at the end of the day, he would dump out his cuffs, dump out all the ashes."

The film also stars Emma Stone, Sean Penn and End Of Watch actor Michael Pena.
