Rylance 'to join Spielberg film'

Mark Rylance is in talks to star alongside Tom Hanks in Steven Spielberg's Cold War thriller.

The actor has just won a Tony award for his performance in Twelfth Night and could be set to make his move from the stage to the big screen, according to Variety.

He is negotiating over a role in the as-yet-untitled thriller which follows James Donovan, an American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to slip behind the Iron Curtain and try to get a pilot released, who was captured when his spy plane was shot down over Russia.

Details of Mark's potential character are not known yet, but Saving Mr Banks actor Tom is set for the lead role and production is expected to begin this autumn.

The Coen brothers have written the latest script and Spielberg is planning to direct the film before he begins work on his adaptation of Roald Dahl book The BFG.

As well as his win for Twelfth Night, Mark was also nominated at this year's Tonys for Richard III.
