Adam Sandler has been named the "most overpaid" actor of 2013 in a new poll.

Forbes magazine has Adam in the top spot after looking at the last three movies actors and actresses starred in over the last three years up until June 1, 2013.

Their list said Adam, 47, can command 15 million dollars per film, but that he only returned an estimated 3.40 dollars (£2.07) for every dollar (61p) he was paid due to his commercial flops Jack And Jill and That's My Boy.

Romantic comedy regulars Katherine Heigl and Reese Witherspoon were in second and third, with Forbes saying Katherine's returns were an average of 3.50 dollars (£2.13) for each dollar she earned and that Reese's average return was 3.90 dollars (£2.37).

Former Grey's Anatomy star Katherine and Oscar-winner Reese were both on the list last year in the same positions.

They were followed in the 2013 list by Nicolas Cage, Kevin James and Denzel Washington.

Steve Carell was in seventh place and the magazine said he had "a major misfire" with The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

The film grossed just 22 million dollars (£13 million) at the box office worldwide and it is estimated that for every dollar he was paid, the actor returned an average 10 dollars (£6).

The top 10 was rounded out by Jennifer Aniston, Matt Damon and Ryan Reynolds.

Forbes' annual poll was topped by Eddie Murphy last year.
