Shannon had estate agent makeover

Michael Shannon has admitted that costume and make-up played an important part in helping him to feel like a cold-hearted estate agent in his new film 99 Homes.

The Oscar-nominated actor donned sharp suits and a deep tan and highlighted hair to play a greedy real estate broker in the film, about a father's struggle to get back the home his family was evicted from by working for an estate agent.

Michael said: "There is an external element to it. The way the guy looks, the costumes...

"Any time you play a character, you wonder if you look like the character looks, and if you feel like you don't, it can make you very insecure, so it's something you have to think about, as superficial as it may seem."

The Man Of Steel star - who appears opposite Laura Dern, Andrew Garfield and Noah Lomax in the movie - revealed it was important to him to be showing the affects the US housing crisis has had on families.

Michael said: "It's very hard to feel that you have a home in this world, a place that's safe, a sanctuary. And the fact this crisis came about, and made people feel even more vulnerable than a lot of people already do, is really heartbreaking.

"But I'm surprised that it's taken as long as it has for a movie like this to get made, because it was a huge part of our experience in America and around the globe. So I'm glad to be a part of it."
