Taylor: People think I'm neighbour

Character actress Lili Taylor has told how people on the street usually think she's their neighbour.

The Conjuring actress has been making films for 25 years - including The Haunting and Short Cuts - but said people rarely recognise her from the big screen.

Lili said that when strangers ask how they know her, she replies: "I know you think I'm in your building. It's The Haunting and that's where you know me from, and let's just cut to the chase."

The actress said if she is approached by members of the public, it's usually about 1988's Mystic Pizza, 1996's I Shot Andy Warhol or 1999's The Haunting.

"I feel like that's a nice spectrum, because you've got your indie, you've got your big one," she said.

"Or they can't remember because I'm one of those who they think I either walk my dog in their neighbourhood or I live in their building."

But the 46-year-old said she's happy with her level of fame.

"That's the kind of actor I am, which is fine," she said.

Lili plays one of the lead roles in The Conjuring, which is about two paranormal investigators who worked with a family in the 70s when a demonic presence took over their old farmhouse. Directed by James Wan, the film also stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson.
