Miles Teller has said he hopes the Fantastic Four remake will "get people excited" about the characters.
The Whiplash star will portray Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic in Josh Trank's reboot, alongside Michael B Jordan as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman and Jamie Bell as The Thing.
"It's a reboot. In theatre, they call it a revival so that's what I hope to do," the actor said.
"We want to bring these characters back to the public and take them out of the comic book and make them flesh and blood and hopefully get people excited about The Fantastic Four again."
The latest film, which will be released in 2015, comes 10 years after Tim Story's version, which spawned a sequel, Rise Of The Silver Surfer, which was released in 2007.
Miles, who plays an ambitious jazz drummer in his latest film Whiplash, previously admitted he isn't a comic book fan.
"I didn't grow up really as a comic book kid necessarily. Fantastic Four is my dad's favourite superhero comic," he told IGN.com.
"And so for me I guess what attracted me originally was Josh Trank. I think Josh Trank is a very creative, inventive guy. You look at Chronicle, you look at what he did for that budget and just how he told the story was really well done. I want to chase directors at this point, and then the cast kind of came together - Michael B, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell - I was very excited."
