The Guard gets the nod for nine awards

The most successful independent Irish film of all time, The Guard, looks destined to clean up in the at the Irish Film and Television Awards next month after receiving nine nominations in the shortlists announced yesterday.

Along with a nod for Best Film, star Brendan Gleeson is nominated for Best Actor, along with co-stars Liam Cunningham, Fionnula Flanagan and Don Cheadle,in the Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and International Actor categories respectively.

Northern Ireland star Ciaran Hinds will be up against Gleeson in the Best Actor category for his role in the film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

And actor Aidan Gillen,currently filming in Belfast, has been nominated for his supporting role in the HBO series Game Of Thrones.
