Tom: Fiennes exhausted by Dickens

Tom Hollander has revealed he had to be a voice of encouragement to Ralph Fiennes on his new film The Invisible Woman, as he was exhausted from directing and playing the lead.

The film tells the story of Charles Dickens' mistress Nelly Ternan. Director Ralph stars as Dickens, while Tom plays his friend and fellow writer Wilkie Collins.

Tom said: "It was brilliant. he was acting and he was directing and it was very, very impressive watching him do it.

"I was playing his friend and I needed to do that on the set as well because he was exhausted the whole time.

"Playing the lead and directing something, I was watching him right at his fingers end in terms of his energy.

"But I've seen the film and he's absolutely brilliant in it."

The film was adapted by The Iron Lady's Abi Morgan from Claire Tomalin's book of the same name.
