Tom Hardy grabs a musical role
Tom Hardy has revealed that he will be starring in musical play Harold's Harem - but he may not be singing or dancing.
The Inception star, who has been in Cannes promoting his new film Lawless, is "closely involved" in the development of the theatre piece with writer Brett C Leonard and is set to take the lead titular role.
"Harold's a cross between two guys Robert De Niro has played in Martin Scorsese films - The King Of Comedy and Taxi Driver. Think of Taxi Driver as a Bollywood movie and Harold's Harem is somewhere where all those - The King Of Comedy, Taxi Driver and Bollywood - meet," he told the Daily Mail.
Asked if he would be singing and dancing, Tom hinted: "It's not a traditional musical. It's a crazy piece of work."
The 34-year-old, who is engaged to fellow actress Charlotte Riley, will next be seen as villain Bane in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises and is set to start shooting Mad Max: Fury Road with Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult.
But he said he would like to return to the stage every few years, adding: "It's got to be done to get the synapses going."
