Upsy Daisy doomed as sun sets on Night Garden

The creator of hit children's show In the Night Garden has called time on the surreal world of Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy and Makka Pakka.

Andrew Davenport said there will not be a new series of the BBC show which won fans around the world and sold millions of spin-off DVDs, books and toys.

He told the Guardian that "as far as it goes in that format, that's it for Night Garden", but added there may be "some other types of broadcast", including "TV one-offs".

The show, narrated by Derek Jacobi, has become a children's classic and is shown in 35 countries including Spain, Canada and China.

It is described by its creators as "a happy world of loveable characters and nursery rhyme nonsense".

A live theatre version went on a nationwide tour this year.
