Wan: I'm revving up for Fast 7
James Wan has said he can't wait to put his own stamp on the Fast And Furious franchise.
The Conjuring director is set to take to the driving seat for the seventh instalment of the racing action films, which is expected to start shooting in coming months.
"I am super excited. I'm a big fan of the franchise. I love the action but more so, because I really like the characters. The chance to bring something a bit different to the franchise - I think that's what they're looking for - and that is my goal," he said.
James may be best known for his horror films such as the Saw franchise, Dead Silence and Insidious, but he said he always wanted to direct an action movie.
"I'm a massive fan of the action genre. I think that's my favourite genre to make movies in," he continued.
"It just so happens that I've been very successful with the suspense and scary thriller genre, that's what people know me for. But I think Fast And Furious will finally show people the kind of stuff I really wanted to get into since I was a little kid."
Jason Statham is set to join returning Fast And Furious stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Christopher 'Ludacris' Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster for the seventh film, which is scheduled for a 2014 release.
