Watch: Belfast duo produce Game of Thrones prequel

Two Belfast filmmakers have completed a two year long project by producing their own epic Game of Thrones prequel.

School friends Shane Gibson and Ciaran McIlhatton released the 15 minute short  film on Youtube on Sunday.

The story takes place 15 years before the first series of Games of Thrones, and tells the story of Brandon Stark, Ned Stark's older brother and heir to Winterfell.

Brandon has been betrothed to Catelyn Tully in an effort to unify the houses Stark and Tully.

A young Petyr Baelish, living as a ward at Riverrun under the care of House Tully, has challenged Brandon to a duel for the Lady Catelyn's hand in marriage.

Produced by Shane and Ciaran's independent film production group, Wild Wolf Films, the project was filmed with the help of around 40 volunteers from across Northern Ireland over six months.

Game of Thrones is partly filmed in Northern Ireland and is set to premiere its seventh series in July.
