Watch: First trailer for Maze escape film released

The first trailer for the film Maze, which tells the story of the mass break out of 38 IRA prisoners from one of Northern Ireland's maximum security facilities, has been released.

Starring Dublin actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, the film recalls the story of the notorious 1983 escape which was the biggest prison breakout in British history.

The film is written and directed by Stephen Burke and will be released on September 22.

Meanwhile, a second film on the Maze break-out is also currently in production, but there are reports filming on the project has had to be postponed until next year.

It will be directed by Jim Sheridan and star Cillian Murphy and Co Down actor Jamie Dornan, with Pierce Brosnan understood to be in talks to play a prison warden.

Sheridan told the Irish Times filming would start in March next year, as that is the earliest Brosnan would be available.
