Watch: Games of Thrones reveals how Jon Snow met dragon on Northern Ireland clifftop

Spoilers ahead for Game of Thrones series seven.

Game of Thrones bosses have released footage showing how they put together the scene where Jon Snow meets Drogon the dragon on a clifftop in Co Antrim.

The famous moment from season seven of the hit HBO series showed Jon, played by Kit Harington, meet one of Daenerys Targaryen's dragons in a suspense filled moment.

Fans need not have feared for Jon's safety as - spoiler alert - he turned out to be a Targaryen himself and the dragons are quite friendly to this particular family.

In a behind the scenes clip released by Game of Thrones it is revealed how the sequence was put together while filming on the cliffs of Fair Head near Ballycastle.

Episode director, Matt Shakman, said: "It's a beautiful moment standing out there on this cliff in Northern Ireland with 40-50mph winds whipping through.

"Shooting this scene with Kit Harington and his cloak blowing like a superhero, reaching out and touching this giant green head - it sounds like it would be silly, but in the hands of great actors like him, they can make you believe what you are seeing.

"Being out there on that clifftop was pretty extraordinary."

"I thought it was exciting to play," added Kit.

Many locations around Northern Ireland have featured on Game of Thrones since it began filming here in 2011.

The cliffs of Fair Head were added to the list following the penultimate series which finished airing on Sky Atlantic this summer.

The final series of Game of Thrones is expected to begin production in the coming months.
