Weisz joins drama Miss You Already
Rachel Weisz has signed up for British comedy-drama Miss You Already.
The Oscar-winning actress will star alongside Toni Collette as inseparable childhood best friends, who find their relationship tested when one becomes pregnant and the other ill.
Twilight filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke will direct the film, which has been written by Morwenna Banks, reported Screen Daily.
"Rachel and Toni are incredible forces of nature - both are fearless in their choices. They dig deep to breathe humanity and humour into their characters. I can't wait to work with them to bring this intense friendship to the screen," Catherine said.
The filmmaker added: "When I met Morwenna Banks, and read her script, I really felt her passion for this story - this is something she lived through. She managed to take real life and turn it into a powerful, laugh- and cry-out-loud screenplay."
Producer Christopher Simon said: "We're over the moon to be working with Rachel and Toni, two vibrant, award-winning actresses. Catherine brings her dedication, talent and unique vision, which will create a film that is beautiful, funny and heartbreaking, all at the same time."
The film, which previously had Jennifer Aniston and Paul Andrew Williams attached to star and direct respectively, is scheduled to start shooting in September 2014.
Rachel, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for her performance in The Constant Gardener, will next star opposite Colin Farrell in Giorgos Lanthimos' English-language debut, The Lobster. The 44-year-old previously appeared on stage with husband Daniel Craig in the Broadway play Betrayal, which finished its run in January.
Oscar-nominee Toni - starring in Pascal Chaumeil's big-screen adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel A Long Way Down with Pierce Brosnan, Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots - will next be seen in road trip comedy Tammy with Melissa McCarthy.
