Kristen Wiig has revealed it took her 10 years to get her break in Hollywood after she moved to Los Angeles and got scared.
The 37-year-old comedian and actress - who has appeared in Saturday Night Live and Knocked Up - has co-written and stars in new film comedy Bridesmaids, but confessed she bottled it when she first moved to Hollywood and ended up working in retail.
Kristen said: "You get this idea that you've figured out your life, and you go for it, so I moved to LA and immediately got scared and partially changed my mind.
"I thought, what the hell am I doing? I had no experience, and this city is filled with people who have experience and who are trying and going out there and auditioning and taking classes and doing plays. And I was like, 'I took Acting 101. Hi, LA! I'm ready to be discovered!' Which didn't really happen."
Bridesmaids stars Kristen as Annie who struggles to act as maid of honour for her friend as her personal life falls down around her.
Kristen revealed when she first thought about acting she wasn't interested in comedy, but it was her old high school yearbook that inspired her.
She said: "A lot of people wrote that I was funny and that kind of shocked me a little bit, because I don't really remember thinking about myself that way.
"Comedy is tough, and sometimes the more you try, the more it doesn't work."
:: Bridesmaids opens on June 22.
