Will Transformers movie lure more tourists to Dark Hedges? Fears grow over impact of visitors

Game of Thrones Dark Hedges have been showcased in the Transformers movie, The Last Knight, - sparking further concern for the area as the site's popularity with tourists could soar.

The new blockbuster from Michael Bay stars Mark Wahlberg and Anthony Hopkins and is set for release in June.

The Dark Hedges feature briefly in the three-minute trailer, showing a mysterious figure riding a horse through the ominous scenery.

The Bregagh Road near Armoy has become a hugely popular tourist attraction in recent years after it doubled as the 'Kings Road' in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones.

The area's appearance in the upcoming Transformers film could be a cause for further concern after The Woodland Trust warned the site 'may not survive the next 20 years' due to the number of vehicles using the rural road.

There was major traffic disruption in the area over the Easter break, when dozens of cars, buses and coaches jammed the road as fans aimed to get pictures of the iconic site.
